- Description
These are four Application Support roles with a leading supply chain, forecast optimisation, and inventory control software company, whose products integrate with standard ERP solutions. They have clients in manufacturing, retail, electronics, wholesale distribution, wholesale fashion, and supermarket chains.
They have four new roles open in their Application Support team (8 people in UK support), and are looking for two experienced Application Support Consultants, and two on the more junior side, hence the wide salary ranges from £23-£32k. There requirements are very flexible, but you must have some experience of supporting commercial business applications, rather than just IT support. They have over 20 offices worldwide and have grown enormously over the last 10 years.
Recruitment in the past - they have found that it is harder for straightforward IT & networking support people to learn to do application support, because IT tends to more logical, methodical, and with repetitive fixes. Whereas supporting a business application means you never know what kind or query you will get about the inner workings of the software, or one of the many modules, and you have to think on your feet much more and find ways to come up with solutions to a huge range of problems. So you need an interest in business processes too, and how the software application works within each client company, and what all the modules do. It can take some time to figure out a solution in application support, so you need to be detail oriented and patient and persistent.
So they are looking for bright, interesting people, who really want to get their teeth into learning new applications and technology, and who have some experience of Application Support, That could be any business application software from ERP, Supply Chain, Distribution, Accounting software, Retail, Trade Merchant, Dealer Management, or MRP solutions to Legal software, Property Management, Asset Management, Invoicing solutions, Insurance, Mortgage or Finance software, Document Management, Fleet Management, Shipping software or anything similar. Any additional knowledge of SQL, SQL Server, Report writing, or SQL scripting would all be welcomed, and if you are a good all-rounder, with a bit of support knowledge in lots of different areas, they could utilise you too.
Empathy with clients and being able to talk to people at any level, from the shop floor to the directors, is really important, and obviously, a good command of English.
At the junior end, you might be supporting an application at an end user site, such as ERP or WMS in a supply chain or warehousing role, and be looking to move in to a technology job full time.
Why would you want this job?
- You will be part of a vibrant, busy team and you will learn and grow from the people you work with Initially there will be a lot of training in solutions like ERP, WMS, Supply Chain, and Inventory
- You will learn about 1st and 2nd line support, SQL Server, SQL, scripting, AI, PowerBI, API integrations and report writing, and knowledge of all these areas will set you up for a fantastic future
- The jobs are hybrid roles, home working but with two days a week in the office
- They set milestones for your technical development and skills improvement path for 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months
- They operate flexible support shifts, so you can pick a shift pattern that fits with your home life or personal preferences, but you must be reared to do the early rounds some of the time
- This is a great place to develop, step outside your comfort zone, learn fast and push your career forward
- The team leader is very focused on helping his team to grow, improve and upskill and gives you loads of encouragement and recognition
- There is plenty of scope to move into consulting, implementation, pre-sales, or account management as you progress
