Description

WMS Application Support (Warehouse Management Systems) position based on the east side of Birmingham near Solihull and Coventry. This role is Application Support of WMS Software working on a mainstream WMS solution as part of a team of 4, covering 1st line and 2nd line application support. Starting salary to £35k with 5 weeks holiday.

They are based in a newly refurbished office, and you will be working in a team environment and working on client support calls, messages and logs. There is occasional travel to client sites. You will be responsible for 1st & 2nd Line Support to their WMS client base by telephone, email and remote connection.

Experience of supporting Manhattan, HighJump, Red Prairie, Aptean, ProVision or any other WMS solution would be great as the WMS environment has a unique set of hardware and terminology such as: Wi-Fi, Rf scanner, Voice picking, Put-Away, SKU's, Visual Warehouse, RFID, Weight, Fork lift trucks, Picking Sequence, Conveyor belts, Scanners, Bar Codes, and Picking and packing.

The background and type of person they are looking for will be:

  • Practical WMS (warehouse management systems) support, knowledge and experience
  • Working knowledge of warehouse operations - been there, seen it, done it kind of thing or close to it
  • Worked in an IT support role and is familiar with IT support desk operation and call logging systems
  • Working knowledge of databases, tables, fields, relationships etc
  • Knowledge of any modern object-based programming language such as VB+, C#, Progress Dynamics etc would be very useful
  • Some knowledge of networks, servers and Windows operating systems
  • Familiar with IT support desk procedures
  • Outgoing, a good communicator, able to work well with clients on the phone and by email
  • Eager to learn, a self-starter and a problem solver
  • Someone who follows things through and believes in giving the best service to your customers

This is a thriving software company near Birmingham. Their WMS application is built using Progress RDBMS and mainly deployed on the Linux platform (MS Windows platform is also used, but less so). You will also have an opportunity to learn about server and hardware requirements, building the servers, working on the database, communications, infrastructure and VPN issues, giving you a lot of additional valuable skills for the future. There is some out-of-hours on call remote support required for several of their WMS customers. This is paid on call and will bring you additional income.
