- Description
We are looking for a Professional Services Manager to join an ERP software consultancy and manage their professional services team of around 60 ERP Consultants and Project Managers.
This would suit an experienced PS Manager, Consulting Manager or Application Software Project Manager (ERP, WMS, Field Service, Accounting software, MRP or similar complex software) who has worked for a software reseller or consultancy and is looking for a career position with autonomy and control. The position is office and home based near Tring with a starting salary to £70k plus car allowance, private healthcare contribution, and gym contribution. You will have to go into the office 2 or 3 days a week so you need to live in commuting distance, probably within an hour or two's drive of Tring. Visits to client sites will be necessary once allowed again.
You will have started your early career as an Implementation Consultant and will have managed a team of consultants, then moved into a Project Manager role, leading teams. You will know the issues involved with project work, travelling to client sites and the challenges of the implementation role. You will work with the project management team to help schedule work and projects and be heavily involved in mentoring, coaching and developing staff.
The job is to manage the consulting team on their ERP software implementation projects. This is a lynchpin position as they are a consulting company, and getting the implementation projects delivered successfully, is the backbone of the whole business. You will be in charge of the ERP software implementation team and project management team.
As the PS Manager you will have a varied role, to include helping the sales team with deals, getting involved in the presentations and meetings, then picking up the project after the sale, working through the hand over and kick off meetings. Then you will work with the Implementation Consultants through the discovery and scoping stage to plan the implementation strategy and allocate people, and organise the Project Managers.
The challenges with this role:
- The increasing size of the deals, and the complexity of these larger deals (typically 300 users across 10 sites), soaking up the most experienced consultants
- Rapid growth of the consulting team and the trouble points that can create
- The wide variety of projects that are being delivered
- Growing pains of an exciting, developing ERP company
Your background will be in software implementation with team management or consultancy management or project management experience, within an enterprise application software consultancy environment (NOT an end user). You will act as the link between the client and the consulting team, being the main point of contact for the client throughout the project lifecycle and being accountable for the overall project success, in terms of budgets and timescales. You will manage the change, creep, scope change, chivvying the client along, corralling the consultants and PM's, managing their diaries and keeping the client happy and informed. What you won't do as the Professional Services Manager is consulting, design or architecture, requirements, training, software implementation or go-live. These will all be handled by the Project Managers and Implementation Consultants.
The company sells fully flexible, customisable ERP software that is cloud based or on premise and works seamlessly on mobile. It covers stock control, accounting, CRM, Ecommerce, BI, sales & marketing, ePos and much more. They have closed some great deals during the pandemic, so you will have a steady flow of projects and the chance to hand pick your new people as the workload increases.
This is a Professional Services Manager role in a rapidly growing company with an impressive track record of internal promotion. It is a long-term career position that would suit an ERP Implementer / PM who has managed consulting teams and can handle project problems efficiently and motivate and people. You will need to be in the office 2-3 days a week, so proximity to the Buckinghamshire / Hertfordshire / Bedfordshire / London / Berkshire area is important.
