- Description
This company is one of the leading developers of software in their specialist field. They need an Application Support Analyst who has worked with SQL Server and has the ability to read and write SQL scripts. You will have covered application software support in both a 1st and 2nd line role, and you understand SQL Server and SQL, SSRS and have experience of SQL queries, using stored procedures and SQL views.
The role is based near Gloucester. There is plenty of flexibility for working from home up to 3 days a week, but you would have to go into the office 2 days a week, so you need to be in reasonable commuting distance.
During their software Implementation projects the Consultants always need to integrate the solution with other technology. This could be a finance system like Xero or Sage 200, or a CRM solution, a website, or an ecommerce solution. The Consultant will write SQL scripts, stored procedures and different SQL code to do these integrations. Occasionally these scripts stop working or they slow down, and that could be because the hardware has changed, the database has been upgraded, a new field has been entered, a strange value has been entered, or someone put the kettle on at a different time. Your job is to work on the support of these SQL scripts.
So you will work with SQL Server and be able to read and write SQL scripts. You will understand application software and be used to 1st and 2nd Line support. You are joining an experienced support team who know the application very well and are a hard working cohesive cooperative bunch of people.
You will be dealing with 1st and 2nd line support issues covering their whole suite of software applications, and need SQL queries and stored procedures expertise, an understanding of SSRS, experience of creating test scripts, re-testing bugs and testing software fixes that are applied to resolve support tickets, the ability to use and setup RDP's or VPN's, an understanding of database schemas, and an understanding of integration.
The clients tend to be nice people and good to deal and most of them have their own IT resources, so you will be dealing with more interesting 2nd line & SQL support queries focused on different aspects of the software, connectivity and the database.
Business is good and there are lots of software upgrade projects, so it is a busy environment and the company is growing. So you need to be able to think outside the box, ask good questions, identify what else needs to be done and be confident enough to come up with ideas and make suggestions. The job needs someone who is good with clients, communicates well, has patience, an enquiring, problem solving mind, and is very organised.
Training is excellent and the management team are all still very much involved hands-on and have superb technical skills, so there are plenty of people to assist you in the learning curve.
The company reward hard work and effort and the prospects for someone joining the support team are to get involved in development, consultancy, project management or training, and working on large projects with the clients.
If you have good application support skills with SQL and SQL Server, this is a great company to work for in a friendly, knowledge sharing team environment where everyone has the same goal - to be the best they can and give the best service to their customers.
