Description

We are looking for a Project Manager who has successfully managed concurrent ERP (or similar) software implementation projects for a reseller, consultancy or software vendor and has solid experience of the project implementation life cycle from sale to hand over, including timelines, project plans, resources, budgets, risks and issues, milestones and deliverables.

This is a very do-able project management role for a bright Project Manager who is great at managing the clients and their expectations. The company is centrally located in the Midlands (Worcester is just a marker point) and you can live anywhere in the UK, from the south of Manchester to the south coast, but ideally not in Wales, East Anglia or the South West as it makes travel to clients a bit more difficult. This job is remote and home based, but there is a need to visit the clients and that will mean some travel. Base salary to £55k + car allowance.

The challenge is to manage the clients, the resources and the ERP Consultants. You understand the issues with getting the right consultant to the client on the right day to do the tasks. You know how to create project management plans to capture user and system requirements, milestones, and deliverables to complete projects; you can manage activity, schedules, creep, risk and stakeholders, and you are a strong communicator who can deal with the pain points, and build great relationships with your clients and your team. Part of your responsibility is being an ambassador for the software, so doing some account management, taking orders from clients and talking to them about different modules and software functionality are all part of this varied role.

As a PM here you will typically have 10 projects on the go - 3 or 4 main new projects or big software upgrades, plus 5 or 6 smaller projects. The travelling could be 2 or 3 days a week to client sites and about 1000 miles a month, it depends on where you live and of course there are peaks and troughs in the amount of travel, but as a PM you have quite a lot of control of your own diary and where you travel to and when.

They are a successful and innovative ERP partner with a large well-established client base and a significant pipeline of new work. They have around 45 staff, a 20 year track record of project management, software implementation and support and the ERP solution they sell covers manufacturing, supply chain, accounting & finance, distribution, asset management, business intelligence, production, inventory, warehousing, and CRM.

The company is strong in many areas, but particularly manufacturing & distribution, plus complex finance projects, so multi-currency, multi-company, multi-country systems are all quite common features of their projects.

Strong PM experience working on application software projects (3 years+) is essential, gained in a client facing position and ERP expertise would be a big bonus. Being able to fight your corner, have the awkward conversations with the clients and manage people and projects in a way that you can get the best out of them and keep working with them (year after year), is essential. They are looking for someone who is driven and likes a challenge.

This role has a lot of autonomy, for instance you will have the authority to give away free days of consulting. (Although as infrequently as possible!). You have the authority to do the whole job, manage the whole project and get it done. You can talk to the other PM's to discuss particular scenarios or talk to the MD, but you should find that you will be able to work out a solution yourself, if that makes any sense!
