- Description
This newly created role is for an Assistant Support & Development Manager to work for one of the oldest, most established ERP providers in the UK. Experience with ERP software and knowledge of Progress OpenEdge / 4GL development and database work is essential, as although this is not a full development role, you need to have enough experience to ensure that the work of the Progress Developers meets standards you have specified, and to be able to maintain release controls, and coordinate Progress modifications and new versions, and test the applications. Salary to £40k, plus laptop and mobile and company benefits, with 23 days holiday rising to 29.
As Assistant Support Manager, you will report to the Software Director, and will work closely with the support team, the Progress developers, the ERP Consultants, and the Product Manager, plus there will be on site work with clients, so you should be happy to travel where required. You can work from home 2 days a week, once you have learned the product and familiarised yourself with the company and the set up, but will need to be able to get to their offices 3 days a week, near Stourbridge in the Midlands.
The company has had extraordinary success in a niche market, they have remained fairly small at around 35 people, but their reputation and ERP product is fantastic, and the solution is constantly evolving. This is where you come in.
You will oversee the small support and development team, assisting with reviews and appraisals, setting development standards and guidelines, maintaining, and specifying software release instructions, ensuring development meets the design concepts, coordinating and managing releases of new software versions, specifying developments put forward by the product team, attending client demos, helping staff with complex software faults, ensuring quality standards are met, and assisting with training customers and staff on the ERP solution.
So essentially, you will have a background in ERP, Progress OpenEdge / 4GL, and you enjoy managing people, and overseeing development methods and standards, and are a stickler for detail, quality, and client service. You are a friendly, but firm individual, you like helping people on a team and mentoring and nurturing them and passing on your knowledge.
