- Description
This is an interesting hybrid role for a Professional Services Manager to run a team of 7 ERP Software Consultants as well as doing around 20% hands-on project management so you will have a lot of variety here. Salary to £55k plus £5k car allowance, life assurance, private health care and generous holidays.
This successful software company has been in business for over 25 years and has around 1,000 clients. They create and implement niche market, fully customisable, innovative business software, developed with up to date technology, which can be sold as a SaaS model, hosted or on premise.
You will be in charge of a team of 6 ERP Software Implementation Consultants plus one Junior Consultant.
Your job will be managing the projects, scheduling the work, booking diaries and running the 20 or 30 active projects. You will plan project time lines, plan resource, ensure documentation is up to date and accurate, understand the clients' needs, and increase the utilisation of the implementation consultants.
It is essential that you come from a software implementation background because you will be booking consultants days and you need to understand how long different elements of the software implementation life cycle take, and will also need to consider the consultants travelling times when working out the schedules. It is also essential that you have an understanding of the accounting functions of software and have worked with application software that includes finance / accounting modules.
Average projects tend to be 3-6 months long and between 8 and 30 days of consulting.
As the Professional Services Manager, you will also be the Project Manager so your job will include:
- Diary management
- Utilisation targets and record keeping
- Supporting the ERP / Business Software Consultants
- Liaising with clients before the start of the projects
You will need to be very well organised and good at delegating tasks with a firm grasp on the importance of good utilisation rates, and the negative impact that non-chargeable days have (although they are inevitable). You will also need to be a good task master and understand geography and travel times.
This is what a typical month for you will look like:
3 days per week in the office, and some remote working from home
2-4 days on client site each month
5 chargeable days per month doing project management work
You will have a Software Implementation and Project Management background (and an understanding of accounting modules) working with application software such as accounting, ERP or MRP software, Property Management software, Construction software, Legal or Payroll software, eCommerce, Retail or similar.
Good Project Management skills are required and you will be someone who enjoys working as a Manager looking after consultants and organising workloads and projects. Obviously, you will be a great people person, able to on board your consultants and motivate and organise the team.
