Sector Developer
Salary £35000 - £50000 per annum

Description

Progress Developer for a permanent role working with a full ERP solution for retail. Starting salary is negotiable, up to £50k, depending on your experience level, plus health care and benefits. You need to be in reasonable commuting distance of the north Milton Keynes area (very close to the M1 motorway) as you will have to be in the office three days a week on average, with two days working from home.

This position is to work for a very successful retail design & distribution company with a number of nationwide stores and a strong global multi-channel and ecommerce online business. They have 2 legacy ERP solutions that were designed in Progress 4GL, and these systems are well established and they work brilliantly. So this job is new development for enhanced functionality to the ERP system, plus some additional support work and occasional changes to legacy stuff. They have a small, busy IT department and you will report to the IT Director.

You need to be an experienced Progress Developer, they could hire two more people right now, so they will look at junior to senior levels of Progress development. You must have decent experience using Progress 4GL tools and environment, and be confident and personable enough to talk to clients and users to understand their requirements.

Because they do a huge amount of web sales through their own website, there is a need to work with, and collaborate with their 2 .Net Software Developers.

Most importantly this job will cover the whole development lifecycle including:

Business analysis

Requirements

Specification

Progress OpenEdge Software Development

Software Testing

Maintenance and bugs

So you will need to enjoy talking to different users, understanding the requirements of the business and you will enjoying learning from the different departments. Over the next 2 years, the IT Director will be looking at bringing in a new ERP solution and he would expect the system to be implemented over the following 5 years. So there will be lots of new projects and a chance to learn new ERP systems and more development languages, but the amount of Progress code they have already, means there will still be Progress work for many years to come.

It would suit an experienced Progress Developer who likes engaging with people, working in a supportive and close knit team, and who is looking for a long term career with a really solid end user company that look after their staff very well.

You need to be able to commute to Milton Keynes 3 days a week on a regular basis.
