Description

We are looking for 2 Project Managers to join an ERP software consultancy - these are home based roles, so you could be living anywhere in the UK - Birmingham is just a marker point - you could be in Basingstoke, Gloucester, Sheffield, Cambridge, Manchester, London or anywhere, as long as you are happy being based remotely. You will probably be on client site one day a week. You may be a PM with a couple of years' experience, or someone who has been around the block - so the salary range is from £40k to £65k based on your skills, plus car allowance, and bonus.

It is essential that you have worked for a software reseller, software consulting firm or solution vendor, and are accustomed to running a number of application software projects concurrently. Your background needs to be project management of application software projects. So this could be ERP / Accounting solutions (they work with MS Dynamics 365 Business Central - formerly Dynamics NAV), or any other application software such as WMS, Field Service, HR & Payroll, MRP software, Legal, Asset Management, Construction or Property Management software or something similar. You will be strongly customer focused and you build great relationships internally and externally.

They are heavily focused on manufacturing clients, but the projects are more often than not manufacturing, distribution and accounting / finance.

These roles are for experienced enterprise solution Project Managers who have:

  • Managed multiple project simultaneously
  • Managed the Implementation Consultants
  • Managed the client relationships
  • Managed projects that are "software, license and services"

You will be work with a dedicated team of ERP Consultants and you will need to focus your attention on helping those Consultants deliver great projects and great service, keeping the projects within time and budgets allocated.

Why is this a great job? You will have multiple projects to manage concurrently, lots of autonomy and lots of variety with projects ranging from 60 to 150 days.

Why is this a tough job?

The clients always think they know what they want; often they will have a Project Manager contracted in to run the project, so your job is tell the client what to do, and sometimes they think it should be the other way around. As a Project Manager who has worked in a consultancy / software reseller environment, you know that you will inevitably have to deal with:

  • Clients with unrealistic expectations of the product
  • Consultants without the knowledge or time to deliver the projects
  • Budgets that aren't big enough
  • Deadlines that are too soon and difficult to hit
  • When it goes wrong everything is your fault!
  • When it goes right it was nothing to do with you! You know the way it goes!

Currently this job is done purely from home. Before Covid the staff used to spend 1 day in the office each month, but everything is done remotely now. It also used to involve one or two days each week on site, and it is likely that some site visits will start again, but nothing is certain at the moment. It is probably best to assume that this role will require one day a week on site.

You need to know how to:

Create initial project plans and schedule projects to complete on time & to budget, manage your own and your consultants time effectively, plan and manage projects in line with company policies and processes, track and log each stage, handle the risk management, manage scope and creep, agree and maintain detailed project plans, keep great documentation, allocate resources appropriately, manage the stake holders, deal with conflict, and ensure delivery achieves a high level of client satisfaction.

Ideally you will have worked with structured methodologies such as Prince 2, Agile PM etc. and strong MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio) is essential. Strong self-motivation, influencing skills, people management, and a passion for tech are essential.

This is a highly successful consulting company of around 75 people - the software is the latest cloud offering from Microsoft and the management team is brilliant. Contact Jake King or Carolyn MacLurg at Ambis Resourcing.
