Description

Key role for an MS SQL Server DBA who can work with multiple clients on multiple databases with multiple problems. The job is with a seriously successful cutting edge ERP software consultancy and covers SQL Server management, looking at and improving customers' SQL Server performance, creating & organising systems to secure to store and secure data, and maintaining the integrity of the databases. You are confident dealing with complex technical problems that clients are having and focusing on the database aspects. You love the challenge of dealing with data and getting anomalies and performance sorted out and improved.

You would need to be in head office 5 days out of every ten as they are currently working a two week pattern of 2 days from home one week, and three days from home the second week, so proximity to the Tring / Hemel Hempstead area is important. Salary to £70k.

They have a number of very large clients, and a key part of this role is to investigate what is slowing down their databases, and what is causing them to fall down. These clients' each have hundreds of custom fields in their database, and each client has a separate SQL Server instance, so the job is almost like being the DBA for 100 companies.

The software here is a SQL Server, .Net framework ERP solution and it is highly configurable, user friendly and has all the bells and whistles and loads of functionality. This ERP consultancy provides a niche ERP solution that covers accounting, stock management, sales & CRM, inventory, purchases, WMS, distribution, BI, mobile apps and much more, and their product is having great success.

You would be part of the 3rd Line Support team, where there is a good balance of technical chat and team banter. There are two other SQL Server experts in this team; one is the Product Director and the other is a very experienced DBA and SQL optimisation expert, but they just don't have enough resource to cope with all the questions, queries and problems of such a large customer base who have large databases. They have over 100 separate SQL Server databases and every instance is set up differently with customisable fields and forms. A big part of this role is to look at the ongoing issues of performance and improve the SQL Server performance. Their clients are generally enterprise businesses of between 150 and 1000 users, and some clients' instances have 2000 users.

Profile:

  • Strong command of SQL Server and SQL Server tools and database administration
  • Advanced knowledge of database security, SQL Server performance and monitoring standards
  • 3 years + as a SQL Server DBA
  • Excellent grasp of performance tuning
  • Understanding of relational and dimensional data modelling
  • Familiar with their tech stack: SQL Server DBA, T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, BI, Data Warehouse, SQL
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Deep problem solving skills
  • Ability to juggle many balls at once
  • Excellent communication skills
